Photography for everyone - a basic class

Beginning Tuesday, January 4th I will be hosting another public photography class at Immanuel Baptist Church in Corbin, Ky. Who is this class for you ask? If you nod your head or exclaim 'yes!' to at least two of the below, you should join us.

You have a good eye but you are wrestling with your digital camera.

You have good gear, but an eye that needs some training.

Your kids and pets deserve better pictures than what you are currently giving them.

All the buttons on the back of your camera remain a mystery to you.

You are regularly asking 'how did you take that photo?'

You know someone who could take great photos if they just had some basic knowledge.

Your photos look great on camera, but you are unsure what to do with them on the computer.

You want to spend more quality time with your favorite photographer.

You are unsure what to give your best friend for Christmas.

Enter 'Photography for everyone - taking better photos of the things you love.' A five- week class that will meet once a week for about an hour and a half. The class takes place at Immanuel Baptist Church, but will go on location and to the studio for hands-on experience. The class will cover:
  • basics on photography (shutter-speed, ISO, aperture, white balance)
  • mechanics of your own camera
  • image processing, sharing, printing and archiving
  • hands-on exercises on location and in-studio with live models
  • photo critiques, tips, and equipment recommendations
This class is for everyone but limited to the first 20 participants at a cost of $75.00. The $75.00 fee covers the five week class and five 8x10's of your best photos at the end of the class.

I recently had the opportunity to work with Operation UNITE, creating some images and logos for the Accidental Dealer campaign. UNITE is a great organization run by some very dedicated people. I am glad I got to work on this project, and this is what I learned:

YOU MAY BE THE LOCAL DRUG DEALER.
Unless your medication is locked up, it is accessible to your children, your grandchildren, your nieces and nephews, your neighbors, or even your friends.

FACTS:

- Prescription drug abuse has risen 400 percent in the last decade

- Prescription drugs are the second most abused substances in the nation

- 2500 children each day in the U.S. experiment with prescription drugs for the first time

- Majority of teens first obtain drugs from a family member or a friends family member without their knowledge.

WHAT CAN YOU DO?

- Talk to your kids about the dangers of drugs

- Lock up your medication and keep a monthly inventory

- If you suspect a problem or need more information, Operation UNITE can provide guidance and resources at 1-866-678-6483.

Zak, Staci and Logan are no strangers to my studio. They're always the best dressed clients, I just love their style. Logan is quite the energetic young man, but when it comes to his Nana, he loves to love on her... for just a minute that is, and then he's back to playing with Buzz and Woody. Check out some of their best shots and a few outtakes.

Kirby & Corey's Engagement photos. I'll be shooting their wedding in January and if the amount of fun we had on their e-pics was any indication of their big day, I know it's going to be incredible. I definitely can't wait to work with them again!

A few weeks ago I was convinced that this fall wasn’t going to be very pretty. Fortunately, I was wrong and it ended up being a beautiful season. I’ve been making good use of the great weather and the other day I had a terrific shoot with Jennifer, Gabe, Shelby and Gabby. Everyone was so much fun to work with and we got some really fun family photos. Check out the slide show below and let us know what you think.

Eagle Falls is one of my favorite places to go here in Ky. It is a great trail to hike or run on, from the cliff-side views to the winding rock stairs and the beautiful waterfall. If you are visiting Cumberland Falls I wouldn't leave without hiking to Eagle Falls.

I had a chance to again photograph Rachel, one of my great senior clients. I first worked with her back on Labor Day and I was excited for “part 2″ of the shoot. Rachel loves America’s Next Top Model (as do I), and she brought some great, model-esque outfits and posing to the shoot. We had a blast shooting around town, climbing up stairs, venturing into alleys, etc. It was an awesome shoot!

Had a great assignment yesterday photographing Coach Calipari speaking and signing copies of the newly released paperback edition of Bounce Back.

It's Not A Great Deal If You Don't Get Great Pictures!

Dear High School Senior,

By now you have probably received several mailings or Facebook advertisements from different photography studios all wanting you to choose them as your high school senior photographer. You have probably seen the discount session fees, free wallets, a DVD set to your favorite song, or even some kind of trip out of town. All of those things are good, but keep one important fact in mind It's not a great deal if you don't get great pictures!

Like everything we purchase, bargains are only a bargain if the product you receive is actually worth purchasing. Cheap items are still just cheap. At JoeyH Photography, creating the highest quality, most creative senior photography is my number one priority. I have had a camera in my hand almost every day for the last ten years, I have won awards in the field of professional photography, I have even published my own magazines! The point is simple, I am confident that you will love your portraits. I want you to have fun and express yourself in each image. Bring along your friends, your pet, your car, anything at all that will make your photos more personal and not just like everyone else's.I have even installed satellite radio so that you can listen to your favorite type of music during your extensive portrait session.

You have many choices when it involves selecting a studio to photograph your senior pictures. Don't just consider the specials or the bottom-line price when making that choice. Remember, these are the most important photos that you have ever had taken of you. Make the right choice for you. Call JoeyH Photography at (606)521-0630. It's one choice you won't regret.

I had the privileged to shoot my outrageously charismatic friend Daniel and his gorgous bride Stephanie's wedding this past weekend. And what happens after two rock climbers get married? They go rock climbing happily ever after.
